Rhubarb

Rheum rhabarbarum 'Crimson Red'

Plump solid crimson red stalks set this rhubarb apart for being one of the most flavorful on the market today.

1) Plant in early spring in well prepared, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 6.8.
2) Thoroughly mix a 1:1 ratio fertilizer into the soil, ¼ cup per plant prior to planting.
3) Set divisions 3 feet apart in the row.
4) Place the buds upright in the soil covered with 1-2 inches of soil and tamp down firmly, water after planting.
5) Do not allow crowns to dry out or set in water-logged soil.

Greenhouse Growing Instructions:

Grow at 55-65° F in high light. Keep evenly moist, never overly wet or dry. Once plants are actively growing, feed moderately at a rate of 75-100 ppm N with each watering. First season do not trim leaves or harvest stems.

Transplanting Instructions:

Plant in well draining professional potting soil. Place root so that top eyes are 1" below the soil. Can trim root slightly to fit into pot. Water immediately and apply a broad spectrum fungicide according to directions to avoid crown and root rot.
