Plantain Lily

Hosta 'Krossa Regal'

Upright graceful habit of frosted blue-green wavy leaves. This variety produces lavender flowers.

Hosta are among the most popular of perennials for shady areas, with hundreds of varieties now readily available. Plants form sturdy mounds of foliage, topped with lily-like blooms. This large selection has powdery blue-green, wavy leaves, forming an upright vase-shaped mound distinguishing it from other Hosta. Lavender flowers appear in mid to late summer on even taller stems. Excellent specimen. Suitable also for planting in mixed containers or tubs. Hosta go completely dormant in the fall, and the dying foliage can be removed any time before mid spring. Easily divided in either spring or fall, but plants may be left alone for years. Good slug resistance. Registered by Gus and Alma Krossa in 1980. Recipient of several awards, including a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (1993).

Greenhouse Growing Instructions:

Grow at 50-55° F under long days to promote root growth, keeping slightly dry between irrigations until sprouts appear. Once actively growing keep evenly moist and provide 35%-50% shade. A top dressing of slow release fertilizer can be applied taking care to keep away from the crown. Hosta generally finish in 6-8 weeks based on growing conditions.

Transplanting Instructions:

Plant in well draining soil. Spread roots downward in pot leaving the eyes just at the soil surface when watered in. If necessary long roots may be trimmed. Apply a broad spectrum fungicide according to directions to avoid crown and root rot.
