Clumps of fern-like foliage with upright, plume-like flower stalks.
Garden Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This selection features long, narrow maroon-red plumes of flowers over a mound of elegant, lacy green leaves, bronze in spring. Also thrives in tubs, or mixed containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. Will tolerate full sun, in cool summer regions.

Begin at 55-60° F until new growth appears. Moisture is key for optimal growth so keep evenly moist, never allow to dry. Once actively growing temperature can be increased to initiate flowering, and begin feeding at 75-125 ppm N with each watering. Provide 50% shade to avoid leaf scorch. Plants generally finish in 8-10 weeks based on growing conditions.

Easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil in partial shade. Follow a watering schedule for first growing season to establish your plant. Can divide clumps every 3-5 years in early spring if desired.
