Blackberry

Rubus hybrid 'Chester'

Blackberry bearing variety with less thorns than regular blackberries.

Plant in well-drained soil in full sun. Loosen soil, spread out roots, and plant root so that the top of the root is 1 inch below the soil line. While not thorn free, this variety has less thorns than regular blackberries, and resists cane blight.

We recommend spacing these plants 5-6 feet apart to ensure room for growth. In many cases, you may still want to plant pollinating partners to increase the size of your crops, but with self-pollinating varieties doing so is optional. You'll get fruit with only one plant!
